The new West Quay Watermark development is home to a number of new and exciting restaurants, one of them being Thaikhun. If the name didn't give it away, Thaikhun is a Thai restaurant which offers authentic Thai food in a 'street style atmosphere'. Last night, I was lucky enough to be invited to enjoy some of their food*, which was nice as it also doubled as an early birthday meal with Dan, who goes back to uni this weekend.
For starters, we ordered some Por Pia Tord Pak (vegetable spring rolls) to share. Thaikhun are really generous with their filling as the rolls were stuffed full with a delicious vegetable mixture. It also came with a lovely sweet chilli sauce which is a favourite of mine.
As there was such a large selection of food on offer, we took a while deciding on our mains. However, as soon as I saw Phad Thai Goong (pad thai prawn) on the menu, I knew I had to have it. I first tried pad thai in Borough Market and absolutely loved it, so I really wanted to see how the one Thaikhun offered compared. Spoiler: it did not disappoint!
Dan had Nua Phad Kra Prao (beef chilli basil) with a side of Sen Jun Luak (rice noodles). The sauce that came with the beef looked particularly tasty, which was confirmed by the almost silence he ate his dinner in.
Finally, dessert. I opted for Banana Fritters as they are a childhood favourite. Unsurprisingly, the banana fritters tasted amazing so I was really happy about that. They were very syrup-y and the vanilla ice cream complemented them perfectly. Definitely a good choice if you have a sweet tooth like me.
Dan decided to be adventurous and order Thai Waffles which was served with green tea ice cream. Admittedly, I was initially unconvinced that the green tea ice cream would taste good, so I did warn him not to expect much. Having said that, I totally ate my words when I tasted some of it, as it was quite nice!
If it wasn't obvious already, I had a fantastic time at Thaikhun and would 100% recommend it to anyone who likes or wanted to try out Thai food. The food was exceptional and the customer service outstanding! This month, Thaikhun are offering an amazing 40% off your bill (Sunday-Thursday) so I would definitely head down there ASAP. They also do a student deal on Tuesdays, so I will most likely be heading back there and taking advantage of that deal.
